Anaplastology as a career
How is an ear prosthesis made?
A Ceritified Clinical Anaplastologists (CCA) has the skills to create life-like facial prostheses, such as an ear prosthesis, that can restore the appearance and precisely fit the underlying anatomy. An ear prosthesis, and other facial prostheses, can be held in place using osseo-integrated inplants. The CCA has the knowledge to interact with other health professionals, such as surgeons and prosthodontists, to guide them in the correct placement of the implants so that the best possible prosthetic restoration takes place when the facial prosthesis is creates by the CCA.
Where can I receive training to become a CCA?
The pathway to becoming a Board Certified Clinical Anaplastologists varies depending on the education and professional pathway of the candidate. The different educational pathways can be found here. Practical experience in a clinical setting can be done by working with an established CCA or prosthodontist to produce the portfolio portion of the CCA application. Locations where the practical experience can be obtained can be found here.

Are there study materials for the exam?

Check the list of CCAs we have on the website here to see if there is a CCA that is local that you can consult with. John Hopkins has a certificate course that gives exposure to training and the field of Anaplastology. Information can be found here. The International Anaplastology Association has yearly meetings and reduced costs for students to attend and a person interested in anaplastology can meet people practicing anaplstology at the conference which may help them to find someone willing to help them.

Is the certification exam ever held in other countries?
Unfortunately the Board For Certification in Clinical Anaplastology cannot make any exceptions. Consult with the Application Checklist here or the on the website here to see the pathway that fits best with the education you have and what courses you still need to complete.
I am thinking about pursuing anaplastology as a career but before I make the decision, I would like some more firsthand exposure to what anaplastologists do. Do you have any recommendations on how to receive this experience?

Is the exam held in languages other than English?
The Board For Certification in Clinical Anaplastology (BCCA) develops the content for the certification exam through a process called a Job Task Analysis (JTA). This process is done to ensure the questions that make up the exam are comprehensive and clearly understood. Unfortunately it is not possible to repeat this thorough and indepth process for other languages and the exam is only held in english. For more information on the BCCA Job Task Analysis, click here.

Is the certification exam ever held in other countries?
The BCCA tries to coordinate having candidates write the exam during the meetings for the International Anaplastology Association (IAA). When the IAA has held their meetings outside of the USA, the BCCA has offered the exam in the same location. (Ghent, Belgium in 2012, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2015 and in Quebec City, Canada 2018). I have problems with mobility. Will the exam location be accessible to me?
Maintaining CCA
The Jotform doesn't save. Do I need to restart the form?
The Jotform does not save however you can submit it multiuple times. Each time you have additional information to submit you can fill in a new Jotform and submit it.
Do I need to submit my documents all at one time or can I submit them as I complete each activity over the 3 years?
Documents verifying Contnuing Education credits can be submitted as you acheive them and the Jot Form can be submitted as many times as necessart.
I am missing some of the documents that verify my attendance at activities I want to use for re-certification.
Re-certification applications are considered incomplete if any of the required information is missing and/or illegible, or the appropriate fee is not included. There is a late fee for filing late or incomplete application. See here for more information.
I attend conferences that offer CEUs in other fields such as O&P and nursing. How do I calculate the number of credits I will receive towards my re-certification in Clinical Anaplastology?
Submit the documentation that the organizers gave regarding the CEU credits they are providing in addition to the program for the event and the proof of payment. The BCCA will inform you of the number of credits you have obatined and you may want to do this in anticpation of the Re-certificaytion deadline in case you are still short of some credits.
