Educational Pathways to Qualify for CCA

The BCCA has established Five (5) eligibility pathways that can lead to qualifying to sit for the exam for Certification in Clinical Anaplastology. The BCCA only recognizes degrees or transcripts from accredited educational institutions in the USA. If the candidates received all or part of their education outside of the USA  the education done outside of the USA will need to be assessed by a third party (wes.org) to determine its equivalency.

What is an accredited educational program?

Accreditation is the analysis and study of educational programs. It measures the quality of the programs and if they are offered equally to all students in the institution. If a university is “accredited,” it means a group of experts took time to evaluate its operation system and that it meets the needed standard to be called granted an accreditation. The U.S Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education, also known as OPE, has a database with all the accredited institutions in the country. They do not accredit educational institutions. Rather, they publish the list of those the Secretary of Education described as reliable, in areas like quality and training provided to students.

Check to see if the course you you plan to take is offered by an institution on the Department of Education’s Office of Post Secondary Education here

Applicants who received their education outside of the USA must have their courses evaluated by wes.org to determine if they are equivalent to courses offered by a USA accredited institution.

What are the various pathways to becoming a CCA?

Each pathway requires additional courses that provide the candidate with the breath of knowledge and skills required of a Certified Clinical Anaplastologist.  These courses most also be taken from an accredited USA based educational institution or be the equivalent.

Portfolio Requirements:

Using the BCCA Portfolio Template

Portfolios must follow the portfolio requirements and should not include more photographs or less photographs than is required. An incomplete portfolio may delay acceptance to write the exam and may also lead to the candidate to not be accepted.

To make it easier for a candidate to complete the portfolio submission without errors the BCCA has developed a slide deck that we are asking all candidates to use to prepare their portfolio. The template clearly states the type of information that must be placed on each slide. By completing the template, the candidate knows the portfolio submitted is complete according to requirements.

Portfolio

All candidates who plan to submit an application to sit for the exam for Certification in Clinical Anaplastology must include a portfolio showing photographs of completed prostheses along with documentation for each patient case as part of the application.

For an overview of all the material that must be included in the application see the Application Overview page and the Candidates Handbook.

Download and Complete a Portfolio Template

To make it easier for candidates who use different operating systems or who may not have certain software programs,  we have prepared the Portfolio Template in using an open source slide software Impress  through Libre Office

https://www.libreoffice.org/discover/impress/

Click on a Portfolio Template and download it. Complete the template and include a PDF version of the completed template as part of the application.

Frequently Asked Questions:

I’m in college and want to know what courses and major I should take to pursue the CCA designation. Where should I start?

Take a look at the Application Checklist found here. There are 5 educational pathways that enable a candidate to be eligible for Certification in Clinical Anaplastology. Choose a major that best suits your general aptitude and interests and refer CCA general application form found here and the Application Checklist to see the additional courses each pathway requires.

Is the certification exam ever held in other countries?

Unfortunately the Board For Certification in Clinical Anaplastology cannot make any exceptions. Consult with the Application Checklist here or the on the website here to see the pathway that fits best with the education you have and what courses you still need to complete.

I am thinking about pursuing anaplastology as a career but before I make the decision, I would like some more firsthand exposure to what anaplastologists do. Do you have any recommendations on how to receive this experience?
Check the list of CCAs we have on the website here to see if there is a CCA that is local that you can consult with. John Hopkins has a certificate course that gives exposure to training and the field of Anaplastology. Information can be found here. The International Anaplastology Association has yearly meetings and reduced costs for students to attend and a person interested in anaplastology can meet people practicing anaplstology at the conference which may help them to find someone willing to help them.
